What do we know about Sugar?
Thanks to the incredible research in documentaries such as ‘That Sugar Film’ and ‘Forks Over Knives’, we now know sugar is a deadly and addictive devil. This seductive sweetener wreaks havoc on your body causing issues such as diabetes, heart disease, acne and depression, not to mention causing serious harm to our favourite thing about you - your beautiful smile.
Toothpaste dates back to 5000 BC when Egyptians used a paste for the same reason as today, to clean their teeth and freshen breath. While the ingredients have since improved, there is still a long way to go. Unfortunately, the toothpaste in your bathroom is likely to contain a damaging amount of sugar, causing harm to your teeth and the rest of your body.
According to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, on average, consumers already consume 17 teaspoons of sugar a day, feeding bad bacteria that lives in the mouth. The acid created by sugar erodes tooth enamel, leaving holes or cavities in its wake. Over 141 children (some even as young as 1 year old) are admitted to hospital every day to endure having teeth pulled, making this the most common reason for children to be admitted to hospital.
What’s the Solution?
Before purchasing any toothpaste, we encourage you to read the label. Avoid toothpastes that have sugar and/or sweeteners in them, which can be identified as Aspartame, Sorbitol and Saccharin (which, unfortunately can also be found in some natural toothpastes). We also recommend avoiding any toothpaste that has ingredients you have either never heard of,
or ones you cannot pronounce as these are likely harmful, but that is a story for another time.
An active ingredient we recommend for those in pursuit of pearly whites is activated charcoal. Activated charcoal has numerous benefits, attaching itself to the food and toxins left on your mouth to remove plaque and detoxify, along with getting rid of stains and other impurities.
A recent article in The Insider Magazine points out that activated charcoal has multiple oral health benefits in comparison to brands like Colgate, and we are pleased to report that not only is our toothpaste sugar-free, it’s packed with nature's strongest detoxifying, whitening and cleaning resource - charcoal.
With this information, we hope to help keep you and your family safe from the unknown inclusion and harmful effects of sugar, making your oral care game safe and simple. PearlBar’s Natural Whitening Toothpaste is a safer (and still delicious!) alternative with all natural ingredients, no sugar and powerful cleaning and whitening effects.
