Our Bamboo Sonic Electric Toothbrush body and charging dock are “bamboo-look” and made from recyclable plastics and metals. While they are not biodegradable, they are 100% recyclable! We continue to look for better and better ways to create products with the highest % biodegradability possible, however in order to meet safety requirements, we must adhere to an IPX7 rating which requires a waterproof container for the base.

The bristles are made of plant-based castor seed oil. They will eventually break down in a home composting environment after approx. 3 months.

On a full charge, your PearlBar Electric Toothbrush battery should last about 5-6 weeks based on using it for 2 minutes two times per day.

Each Bamboo Electric Toothbrush head should last between 2-3 months depending on how firmly and how often you brush your teeth.

The best way to dispose of your used PearlBar Bamboo Electric Toothbrush Heads in compost.

For a faster break town, separate the bristles using a pair of tweezers. Then, split the brush head down the middle (start at the bottom where the cornstarch insert is) and remove the cornstarch insert. This helps to speed up biodegradability as each component will break down at different rates.

Our PearlBar Bamboo Sonic Electric Toothbrush heads are more biodegradable than any other electric toothbrush head on the market today. After removing the 60% biodegradable cornstarch insert and disposing of the nylon bristles, you are left with a 100% biodegradable bamboo piece that can be easily composted and will break down fully within 3-6 months. Check out this article on our blog for more information about the dangers of traditional electric toothbrush heads.

The small insert in each bamboo toothbrush is made from cornstarch and Polypropylene, one of the safer plastics. This component is 60% biodegradable and ecologically superior to the plastics used in standard electric toothbrush heads.

Simply recycle your sonic toothbrush base as an electric appliance. Please check your local recycling facilities, and follow their directions accordingly.

Other products

It’s important to us that our products contribute to a happier and healthier earth, so our toothbrushes, floss picks and all our packaging are biodegradable. Once the bamboo handle is buried in soil, they begin to break down and decompose within six months, having as little impact on the environment as possible.

You may already know that discarded plastic toothbrushes contribute to over 100,000 tonnes of landfill waste globally each year. Because plastic takes around 1,000 years to break down, these (increasing) volumes are causing serious and long-lasting damage to the environment – especially marine life.

So, we’ve used the most effective and advanced additives and manufacturing methods to make sure your PearlBar squad breaks down naturally when needed. Happy earth, happy us!

Bamboo toothbrush handle

Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on earth. It’s naturally regenerative, requires minimal rain and grows without the use of harmful pesticides. As a result, it’s incredibly abundant.

In fact, by harvesting and using bamboo, we are giving purpose to an overpopulated natural resource by helping to control its unwanted spread into agricultural and natural forest areas.

Floss pick handle, charcoal bristles and packaging

They’re made with oxo-biodegradable plastic, which uses technology that converts products into biodegradable materials once they’re ready to be returned to the earth.

Our charcoal-infused bristles are made from eco-enhanced nylon, which is also 100% biodegradable. This is a far cry from traditional floss, made from nylon coated with wax which only clogs and pollutes the environment.

For best biodegradability, place floss picks + toothbrush bristles in recycling for these to break down in oxygen and sunlight.

We could write novels about it. Find out about nature’s dusty little miracle here: Why Charcoal?

The same as a regular toothbrush. Dentists recommend replacing your toothbrush every 2-3 months.

At this time, all toothbrush bristles are made of nylon and need to be disposed of in the trash. As we continue our research and efforts towards more and more sustainability in our products, we look forward to making updates to this and other features across the board.
